WEDNESDAY 23RD JUNE 2010
WSKC Festival Larkhall June Race Report
The WSKC Open Festival took place on the 18th-20th of June with the third round of the Scottish Super Series also taking place on the same weekend. With both these events sure to attract big grids, the Saturday night festivities and the added excitement of timed qualifying on Sunday morning, the event could be seen as nothing but a great success.
There was some good news after the race with Honda Cadet racer Neil MacLennan being released from hospital on Sunday night after his big crash in the final with no major injuries.
The first final of the day was for Cadets with Comers and Hondas sharing the track. In the large Honda grid, pole position driver Billy Monger managed to open up a big lead which he maintained to the flag. The race for second was more interesting with Dino Lee eventually taking the position from Jack McCarthy and Steven Prentice. Christopher Morris took the novice trophy.
In Comers, Jack Phillips also pulled a big gap to take the win with Robbie Fowler in second.
Minimax was next with Colin Noble and Brogan Kinsella battling for the lead for the entire 15 lap final. Noble managed to hold onto the win by just 0.30s with Rory MacLennan in third closely followed by Jack Williamson.
Charles Wagner had won all the days races and so started from pole in Junior Blue. Robbie Dalgleish soon took the lead but with Wagner following closely behind. Katie Brown in third was visibly gaining on the leaders when the race was red flagged and brought to an early end to allow the air ambulance to land and attend to an injured driver from another race. The race finished in this order with Cameron Low taking the novice win.
Junior TKM was again won from pole position by Rory Pringle. A close battle for second saw Jordon Irvine take the position followed closely by David McNicoll.
Tom Ford took the Junior Rotax win from pole but Logan Watt, from grid 7, made sure that Ford was pushed all the way to the flag. Kyle Fowlie finished less than a second off the leader in third with Jack Sutherland in fourth.
Paul Etheridge took the World Formula win after taking the lead from Kevin Pollock just two laps from the end. Pollock finished second with David Pringle in third.
Like his brother in Junior Blue, David Wagner had won all of the Formula Blue heats on his way to pole position for the final. However, Wagner failed to complete the opening lap of the race to leave Stephen Phillips in the lead with Greg Stark in second. Soon Calvin Watson was on their tails after starting on grid 7 and by lap 6 had taken the lead. This is how they finished with Watson taking the win 0.70s ahead of Phillips and Stark.
After a false start, Alistair Smith took the lead of the ICC final from pole driver Daniel Borton. But before the opening lap was finished Borton was back in the lead and he then opened up a comfortable gap to take the win from Smith and Graham Clark in third.
Jamie Fegan lead every lap of the Rotax Max final but Fabio Minchella kept him honest, finishing 0.82s behind in second. Ryan Ellis finished a couple of seconds down in third with Iain Mason in fourth.

THURSDAY 10TH JUNE 2010
WSKC Larkhall June Race Report
The 4nd round of the WSKC Summer Club Championship took place over the weekend of the 5/6th June with overcast but dry conditions giving teams some anxious moments on the grid before the finals. Also, with the WSKC Open Festival and 3rd round of the Scottish Super Series just two weeks away, many took the opportunity to get some practise in before the big race.
The first final of the day was for Comer Cadet where pole position driver Jack Phillips led every lap of the race and took an easy win. Behind Phillips, Alex Lindsay and Blair Watson fought over second position with Lindsay taking the spot at the flag by just 0.21s.
Honda Cadet was next with Steven Prentice starting the race from pole. By the end of the opening lap however Robbie Gallier had hit the front and then on lap 3 Dave Wooder took the lead which he managed to hold on to for the rest of the race with Prentice and Gallier close behind. After a big crash in heat 3, Jordan Donaldson came from the back of the grid to take fourth with Chris Morris the best placed novice.
Polesitter Rory Pringle failed to take the start of the race after stopping on track with mechanical difficulties leaving Jordon Irvine to take an easy win from Grant Hunter and Martin Millar.
A big grid of Junior Blues took to the circuit next with Robbie Dalgleish claiming pole position after the heats. But a poor opening lap put Dalgleish down to third with Charles Wagner taking over at the front from Blair Campbell. Light rain made conditions tricky for a while but by lap 4 Dalgleish had re-taken the lead which he held until the flag. Campbell and Wagner both crossed the line 1.97s behind the race winner with Katie Brown following close behind in fourth. Ross Anderson finished as the best placed novice.
A tight race at the front of World Formula, with all three drivers covered by less than a second, saw Kevin Pollock claim the win with Paul Etheridge in second and Grant Findlater third.
Winner of all three Rotax Max heats Fabio Minchella started from pole but it soon became clear that he had a problem, dropping to the back of the field before retiring. Nick Morton took over in the lead with Iain Brown close behind and Ryan Sives in third. Brown took the lead but in doing so knocked Morton back to third behind Sives. This is how they finished on track but Brown was then given a three-place penalty for his move on Morton, leaving novice driver Sives to take the win.
The final race of the day was for Formula Blue with Alan Young leading out a grid of 19 karts for the final. Young was never challenged at the front and managed to open a 2.45s lead at the flag. Douglas Simpson finished in second with Jonathan Elliot close behind in third. Fourth place and fastest lap went to Stuart Gray with Fraser Wallace finishing fifth.

THURSDAY 20TH MAY 2010
WSKC Race Report – 6th May 2010
The 3nd round of the WSKC Club Championship took place on 15th/16th May with many grids boosted by travelling drivers competing in the NKF championship. Over 120 drivers took to the track with the weather only affecting some of the early finals with a light rain shower.
The first final was for Comer Cadet which saw Jack Phillip take the lead on lap 4 from poleman Jack Brailsford. Robbie Fowler soon caught the pair and by lap 6 had taken 2nd position. The track became very slippery following a rain shower but the top three stayed in these positions until the flag.
Wet tyres were on all karts for the Honda Cadet final with triple heat winner Jordan Donaldson taking an early lead. By lap 4 however Graham Methven had taken over and soon after Donaldson spun after losing a wheel. Methven took the flag easily but was later excluded leaving Lewis Willacy to take the win from Ocean Bach and Tushar Vivekanandan. The first novice was Lucas Blakeley.
Mini Max was next with Adam Mackay leading the opening laps from pole position. Soon Mackay and Dan Fazzone began trading the lead with Fazzone just holding Mackay off for the win. Jack Williamson finished 3rd just over 3 seconds behind the leaders.
In Junior TKM, poleman Martin Millar stretched out a big lead and maintained it to the flag, winning by 4.50s. Grant Hunter held onto 2nd from Stuart Speirs with Cristian Saba taking the novice award.
A large grid of Junior Rotax took to the track next with pole position driver Kyle Fowlie managing to open up a 3.84s lead from Jamie Alexander in 2nd position. The fight for third between Lewis Adamson and Jack Sutherland was just won by Adamson with Joshua Gardener finishing 5th.
In Junior Blue, Neville Parrot opened up a gap in the opening few laps before Robbie Dalgleish began closing the gap. Waiting until the second from last lap to make his move paid off for Dalgleish, winning by just 0.29s. Tommy Leckie finished in a strong 3rd with Ross Adamson taking the novice win.
In the four stroke classes, Grant Findlater and Chris Drummond took the wins in World Formula and Biland respectively. David Pringle and Paul Etheridge finished a close 2nd and 3rd in World Formula while Colin Russell and Ian Lindsay claimed the podium positions in Biland.
Next up was a smaller than usual Formula Blue grid. A rain shower mid-race made conditions difficult with some of the lead drivers falling off circuit. Fergus Barlow managed to keep his cool and claim the win from a closing Jonathan Elliot. Ian Brown finished in 3rd with Mike Woodside 4th.
The largest grid of the day with 28 karts was Rotax Max. Poleman John Stewart drove a faultless race, opening a comfortable advantage until cruising to the flag with a 1.23s gap to John Pike in 2nd. Jay Taylor finished 3rd with Ryan Todd, who also claimed the fastest lap, in 4th. Waz Ahmad claimed the novice trophy by finishing 14th on track.

MONDAY 19TH APRIL 2010
WSKC Larkhall April Race Report
The 2nd round of the WSKC Summer Club Championship took place over the weekend of the 17th/18th April and although there was a constant threat of rain, slicks were on the karts for the entire day. With only one week until the MSA Super One event at the circuit, many drivers took the opportunity to race beforehand boosting the number of entries.
The first final was for Comer Cadets with a full grid thanks to the upcoming Super One round. Connor Jupp took pole position and led the most of the race. With a few laps Nathan Ashton hit the front but fell to fifth by the end of the next lap with Jupp regaining the lead and holding it to the flag. Tom Harvey finished next with James Kellett and Lando Norris third and fourth.
A close race at the front of the Honda Cadet final saw third place starter Steven Prentice take the flag by just 0.35s from Jordan Donaldson and pole starter Graham Methven who finished third. Christopher Morris took the novice win.
Junior TKM was again won convincingly by Rory Pringle who also broke the official track record for the class. A close race for second saw Martin Millar just hold off Stuart Speirs.
Brothers Neville and Daniel Parrot started the Junior Blue final from the front row with ‘O’ Plate Neville on pole. At around half distance Robbie Dalgleish hit the front but could only pull out a small gap from the drivers behind. At the flag it was Dalgleish who won by 0.61s from Neville and Daniel Parrot with Matthew Gilliand taking the novice trophy.
A small grid of KF3 drivers saw Ben Barnicoat start from pole and then maintaining a small advantage for the entire race to take the win by 0.34s from Sam MacLeod with Charlie Robertson in third.
The Biland final saw Chris Drummond winning easy with Hamish Gilbert in second place. World Formula was won by Grant Findlater with Stuart McDougall finishing next.
In Rotax Max, Irish driver Gary Turkington easily won from pole. Coolant spilt on the track made conditions tricky with some spinning out. Despite this, Iain Brown finished second with Nick Morton in third.
Formula Blue was the last final of the day and saw Douglas Simpson start from pole and take an early lead with third place starter Calvin Watson close behind. The two lapped closely until mid-distance when a mistake by Watson gave Simpson a small lead. For the rest of the race Watson slowly closed back in but finally ran out of laps with Simpson taking the win. Third went to Brian Lees.

WEDNESDAY 24TH MARCH 2010
Race Report March 2010
Spring had certainly sprung for the 1st round of the WSKC Summer Club Championship which took place on the 20/21st of March. The weekend’s racing took place on a dry track with drivers taking advantage of the extra grip for very fast lap-times and some great racing.
The Comer Cadet final was first with Scottish Champion Dean McDonald on pole. A race long battle between McDonald and Jordan Gilbertson followed with McDonald leading into the final corner. Gilbertson managed to cut back across the rear bumper of McDonald and draw alongside across the line in what looked like a dead-heat but with Gilbertson being declared the winner by just 0.01s. Jack Phillips finished in 3rd with Hugo Ellis in 4th.
Honda Cadet is again showing signs of growing with over half the field being novice drivers. At the front, poleman Steven Prentice managed to hold off Jordan Donaldson for the win with Lewis Willacy following close behind. Cameron Anderson took 4th place and the novice trophy.
Rory Pringle again dominated the Junior TKM races winning all three heats and the final. A close race for 2nd involving four drivers saw Martin Millar claim the position with Grant Hunter 3rd.
The Junior Blue final was next which saw poleman Robbie Dalgleish pull out a comfortable 2.58s advantage that he held to the flag. Next was Blair Campbell in 2nd and Neville Parrot close behind in 3rd. Tommy Leckie finished as the best placed novice in 5th position.
In the 4-stroke senior classes, Paul Etheridge again won the World Formula final while Chris Drummond won Biland by 3.03s from Ian Brown and Malcolm Brown.
Rotax Max saw Fabio Minchella claim pole and pull out a healthy advantage in the early part of the race. But by mid-distance Iain Brown and Mike Falls had begun to reel the leader in and with a couple laps to go Brown took the lead. On the final lap Minchella managed to squeeze down the inside on the run to the final corner with the resulting contact forcing Brown to the grass and back on behind Minchella, who held on to claim the win with Brown and Falls close behind.
The Formula Blue final saw some quality drivers at the front of the field battling for the win. Calvin Watson led the first part of the race but with regular KF2 drivers David Wagner and Steven Napier closing quickly. Both managed to get by Watson but in doing so allowed three other drivers to catch up. The final lap saw six karts in a train with Wagner keeping a defensive line at the front and just managing to hold off Napier and Watson for the win.

WSKC and the ASKC
West of Scotland Kart Club has been invited to rejoin the Association of Scottish Kart Clubs. The WSKC committee consider that it would be in the interests of Scottish karting for our club to be members of the ASKC and help build a stronger Scottish championship. We have confirmed this to their representatives as follows:
Further to our committee meeting last night (12th January) we confirm that West of Scotland Kart Club do wish to rejoin the ASKC for 2010 and host one round of the four round Scottish Super Series.
We will require the Series to be run to the class regulations as detailed in the 2010 MSA Kart Race Yearbook. As regards the Honda Cadets our members need to have a separate class run for unsealed Honda engines (should there be 5 entrants or more to make up the class).
Our committee feels that 2010 will be as financially challenging as 2009, if not more so. To minimise our members’ costs and maximise entries we would ask that some consideration is given to having the SSS rounds running on the same dates planned for the NKRA events.

THURSDAY 3RD DECEMBER 2009
WSKC AGM – Chairman’s Report
For those of you unable to attend the AGM I give a brief report on the discussions and decisions.
The audited accounts were presented by the treasurer who expanded on the categories and gave explanations where differences showed. There were no questions raised from the floor and the accounts were proposed and seconded without alteration or referral.
The chairman reminded the members of the enhancements to the facility in the past year, with the parc ferme and gantry attracting praise from Super One officials and drivers, not to mention our own members. These installations, along with the club’s organising skills had resulted in agreement for a further three rounds of National Championship for 2010.
The ongoing court case since 1995, whereby 5 officials of the club were sued for £1,000,000 has now been concluded with the case being abandoned by the pursuer two weeks before the case was due to be heard in court.
We still continue to receive complaints on the level of noise emanating from the circuit and this translated into formal planning objections to our submission for approval to build the gantry. This is a subject that requires committee attention in the coming year and possible restrictions on running engines in the paddock and parc ferme.
Several issues of unnecessary approaches and unacceptable attitude to officials and marshals were reported. This form of intimidation is totally abhorrent and has no place in our sport. The committee will act decisively to ensure our volunteers enjoy working at Summerlee for your benefit, without them there would be no race meeting for all others.
Despite our best efforts to attract a round of Formula Kart Stars we failed on the inability to provide some 200 pit spaces for the expected entry, we were successful in being chosen to host one of the only two qualifying rounds for the Comer cadet British Championship, this to be held in January.
The fees for 2010 are to remain the same however the silver membership has been dropped due to misuse by some and the free race entry has been withdrawn.
All the committee proposals as advertised were accepted without challenge, the only proviso being that any change to the legal formation of the club has to be brought back to the membership at either an EGM or the next AGM.
The invitation from the ASKC to rejoin was discussed and it was agreed to apply for membership providing the Scottish Super Series and the A plate meetings were run to the Gold book regulations. We await a response to this at this time.
The meeting concluded with cheese, wine and soft drinks being served, for which I extend my thanks to Ina and Kate.

Chairman

THURSDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2009
MSA Unveil Bambino Regs
Following outline approval being given at last month's Motor Sports Council meeting, the Motor Sports Association has now confirmed the regulations that will govern Bambino Karting for six and seven year olds from 1 January 2010. A full version of the regulations is available on the MSA website.
Bambino karting will provide an MSA-sanctioned competitive environment for young karters from their sixth birthday to the day of their eighth birthday. Competitors must hold an MSA kart clubman licence available either on the day or from the MSA; this normally costs £30, but thanks to the MSA's recent initiative, first time applications for an MSA licence are free to those under 16 years of age.
The Bambino format does not permit any form of racing between competitors and only a set number of karts will be allowed on the circuit at any one time. It is therefore an individual time trial event, with drivers classified and rewarded according to their performance against the track's 'target time' that will have been set by an experienced Cadet driver.
Drivers achieving a time within 5% of the target will be given a Gold award, those between 5% and 15% will receive a Silver award and those between 15% and 25% will be awarded a Bronze. Additional awards may be made by the individual club. Those drivers achieving six signatures in Bambino karting, including at least three Silver or Gold awards, will be exempt from the ARKS practical test upon reaching their 8th birthday.
The precise regulations will vary according to location. Venues wishing to operate Bambino karting must submit an application to the MSA for an extension of their track licence and this will require a mandatory inspection by the MSA's Technical Department. Details for each venue's target track time, number of permitted karts, start intervals, marshal posts etc will then be confirmed within the track licence document.
The Bambino karts must conform to Blue Book regulations, adapted where required to be compatible with the smaller chassis, while the engines must produce no more than 3hp. All competitors must wear Blue Book approved clothing and equipment and the latest Snell-FIA specification helmets that have been produced specifically for young people will be mandatory for all participants.
Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive: "We have seen a great surge of interest in karting over the last couple of years and the introduction of this Bambino class is a response to the demands of competitors and organisers. As ever, the MSA's primary consideration is one of safety; we have to recognise the limitations of children at six years of age and make sure that we minimise the risks as far as possible.
"While some may consider six years old to be too young for this type of activity, the Motor Sports Council has taken the pragmatic view that it is better to embrace it and introduce strict regulations under the control of the governing body, than to let something develop that is less well regulated."
For the full Bambino regulations, please click here.

Junior Blue - Red Flag Incidents, Injury and Damage
The committee have monitored the race incidents over the past few months and it is felt that the injuries and damage sustained is too high. Motor racing can be a dangerous sport but your committee feel that we need to implement alterations to the race format in an effort to minimise the accidents that are resulting in medical attention. We have previously changed to a 4 group structure to reduce the number of karts racing on the circuit at any one time and this has helped however the committee still consider further changes are needed.
To this end we have approached the MSA for guidance and permission to alter the SR's to allow for grid positions to be decided by timed qualifying in place of "by entry or ballot". We await their instructions but wish to advise Junior Blue drivers of the request. This will be discussed at Drivers Briefing this weekend and your committee seek your co-operation in implementing this change in the interests of driver safety.

MON 22ND DECEMBER 2008
WSKC Committee Statement
This statement is being posted as information for those unable to attend the AGM in November.
Treasurer's Report
The treasurer's report, fully audited, indicated that the club had functioned well in the past year. The introduction of the Gold and Silver membership had proved popular, but the Silver option was proving difficult to administer. Funds had been lodged in a high interest bond as savings against high cost improvements that would need to be undertaken sometime in the future i.e. track resurfacing or track improvements at our new location. Acceptance of the accounts was proposed and accepted by the members present without alteration or referral.
Improvements
The Chairman reported on a busy and successful year with improvements to kerbs and drainage. The WSKC web site has seen many additions and would continue to be developed.
2009 plans were already well in advance with a new scrutineering block and parc ferme fencing to take us up to a standard where we can manage meetings to an international level. CCTV is to be installed to monitor racing and practicing.
Events
The success of the past has been rewarded by the selection of WSKC as the host for 3 Super One meetings with all classes coming to Summerlee; TKM, Rotax and MSA. Additionally all NKRA Scottish rounds have been awarded to us as well as the O plate Championship for Junior Blue and Formula Blue.
Relocation
The relocation of our facility has now been deferred due to the current economic situation and we are likely to be at Summerlee for some seven more years.
Fees
In an effort to increase racing attendance the committee had listened to members who felt the cost of a race weekend was becoming excessive and noted a large increase in members who only used the circuit for practice. In an effort to achieve a balance the committee recommended a series of changes. With a slight change to the application of the free race entry, the membership ratified the committee recommendation. The fees for 2009 are Gold, £295.00 which includes membership and free non-race weekend practice and one, free race entry. Silver, £30.00 per month by bank standing order is as gold but must be arranged in January before the first race meeting , this reflecting the treasurers concerns on administration. Bronze membership is set at £70.00 with practice charged at the standard rate. Race entry fees have been set at £40.00 with novice drivers continuing to receive a reduced cost of £20.00 The setting of practice fees is a matter for the committee to consider and set after the AGM and this they have now done and practice fees have been set at £20.00. Social membership remains unchanged at £10.00
Classes
Two small changes to the constitution were considered and approved and the SR ruling of 5 to constitute a class was raised. The committee confirmed it would revisit this problem at the forthcoming committee meeting and have since agreed to withdraw this condition allowing all karts to race within the MSA box structure.
Should anyone have questions or concerns the correct route is to your committee either direct or to info@wskc.co.uk. These matters are discussed and we will get back to you with a response.
Bill McDonald
Chairman
West of Scotland Kart Club.

Club Development Update
Bill McDonald, Rod Taylor, Sandy McEwan and a representative of Graham & Sibbald met with the council last week to determine the current situation. It is the case that until the council sell our current ground to a developer they do not have the money to relocate and compensate us. The "credit crunch" will delay things for probably at least 5 years and more likely 7. WSKC have agreed to keep looking for a replacement site and it may be the council could find funds to secure this for the future, but for now we stay. This means WSKC will now look at progressing the facility in any way we feel will benefit the club and its members. Any increase in value will be taken into account when an updated valuation is agreed.

Food and entertainment on the Saturday evening, (bring your own alcoholic drinks). The WSKC S plate can be used at any track which accepts the drivers entry( ie number )we would hope the other clubs will accept the WSKC S plate but it is up to them. It is understood that the ASKC is not awarding the S plate this year, issuing instead S1 to S5 in each class. The WSKC committee have already agreed to recognise the ASKC S1 to S5 except where super 1 cadet drivers enter a race meeting, where the national numbers (S1 to S5 ie super 1 results) will take precedence. This is unlikely but under ABKC rules we must follow this ruling.
